Is the course for me?
If you want to learn new skills in the hairdressing and beauty industry that could set you up for a new career, then this course could be the new beginning for you. Throughout the one year course you will be guided to learn new skills not just in hairdressing and beauty but also theory and IT. This is a full time course and is suitable for all ages, school leavers and adults alike. You can bring family and friends to use as models for the assessments, or you can use head blocks when hairdressing, provided in your kits.

What will I learn?
The course consists of both practical and written areas of hairdressing and beauty. Units will cover basic areas of hairdressing, including cutting, blow drying, style and dress hair, perming and colouring. You will be shown how to create styles suitable for individuals, considering their hair type, texture and face shape. Progress will be monitored on completion of assignments, practical assessments and an online synoptic test. Beauty input will include manicures, pedicures, advanced nails and nail art. Your IT skills will be developed enabling you to present your assignment work more creatively and clearly. The Academy has a policy that all students must wear their uniform when in College and bring hairdressing kits to all salon sessions. Order forms are available from the Academy. Prices for Hairdressing uniforms are approx £57.00 plus p&p. Polo shirts cost approx £15.00. Hairdressing kits TBA. Beauty uniforms are approx £57.00 plus p&p. Beauty kits TBA. All uniforms and kits are required for this course.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments in practical sessions will tak place on family, friends, colleagues or your blocks(hairdressing) and non paying clients. You will demonstrate various skills, consultations, cutting, colouring, perming to standards that wil acheive a Pass, Credit or Distinction grade. Assignments will be marked by your tutors throughout the course. Three small exams will be completed at the College along with an online synoptic test. Beauty treatments will be carried out to NVQ standards and criteria.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress onto the NVQ Level 3 Hairdressing and Beauty or progress onto an Apprenticeship course.
