Health & Social Care BTEC (Edexcel) National Diploma in Social Care

Level: Level 3

Course content:
The course is for primarily for young people aged 16-19 who wish to pursue a career in Social Care or progress to higher education to study for degrees in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Social Sciences, Social Policy or other care related courses.
The course is made up of 18 units- nine core units and 9 specialist units. The units include: Equality, diversity, and rights in care work, Communication and supportive skills for care work, Research for care, Applying Sociology, Vocational Practice, Applying Psychology, Protecting self and Others, Personal and Professional Development. Specialist units will include: Health promotion, practical caring Skills, Care organisations, Project in Care, Life span Development, issues for People who use care Services, Ethics and values and Technology in Health and Care Services. The course also includes key skills in communications in year one and numbers in year 2.

Course Structure:
The course is delivered over two years and is divided into two semesters of 18 weeks per year. It also includes one/two days per week work experience plus a two week block work experience per year.

Course resources:
Course textbook, lever arch file, subject dividers and lined writing paper. All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.

Assessment:
All units are initially assessed and graded and an overall for the qualification is awarded. There will be an external assessment for the key skills.

Fees Info
The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 (or £20 if you receive benefit) once per academic year.Materials costs:
Approximately £50.00 for appropriate care texts. In addition students will need to provide folders and writing paper. Plus CRB check £38.00
