Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally have at least 2 GCSEs at grade C or above preferably including English or Maths. Applicants should have an ability to relate to children, be able to work safely in the workplace and satisfy ACCESS NI clearance.

In circumstances where there are more applications for the course than there are places available, the College reserves the right to ask for higher grades.

Course Content

There are 10 units completed
on the level 2 award. Examples

• Health and Safety
• Child Development
• Equality and Inclusion
• Play and Learning
• First Aid
• Child Protection

If you are accepted onto this course
without a Grade C or above in Maths
and/or English you will be required
to complete the relevant Essential
Skills qualification. This will be a
compulsory part of your timetable.

Course Aims

To prepare candidates for working 0 – 16 age range.

Special Features

• Work placement integral part of course.
• Students will have the opportunity to do Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT where GCSE’s at C or above are not held in those subjects.

Assignments and work based portfolio including observations.

Level 2 CCLD and Essential Skills – literacy and numeracy.

Progression Routes

Gain employment in child care settings at recognised status. Follow opportunities for both work and career development within the child care sector. You may progress onto either Level 3 CCLD or National Diploma in Childcare.
