The 18'unit BTEC National Diploma offers greater breadth of study in Horticulture. By completing 12 of the 18 units in the first year, you will also gain a National Certificate. A range of industry recognised additional qualifications are also delivered as part of this very comprehensive programme.
Studying this course will prepare you for employment and is suitable for students of all ages who wish to enter a specialist area of employment. The qualification provides you with a sound practical knowledge of horticulture and is held in high regard by all sectors within the horticultural industry.
Completion of the National Diploma will also enable you to continue onto Higher Education.
The course finishes at Easter in Year 2, allowing you to enter the employment market when your new skills are in greatest demand.
What qualifications will I need?
Enthusiasm, relevant practical experience and the ability to cope with written work. Four GCSEs minimum Grade C or equivalent (including English Language and Maths), First Diploma at merit or NVQ Level 2. Particularly suitable for mature students who will be considered even if they lack formal entry qualifications.

What is involved?
Two years at Kingston Maurward College, usually with a placement period working within a horticulture business. Lectures, demonstrations, practical instruction, industrial visits.
Where will it take me?
Employment in many areas of horticulture. Progression to Higher Education. Self employment.

- RHS Level 2 certificate in Horticulture
What materials are required?
Practical clothing, overalls, waterproofs, steel toe'capped safety boots, basic stationery. Tetanus protection is recommended.

- ABC Certificate in Arboriculture.
- FdA Retail Horticulture Management
How will I be assessed?
A range of continuous assessments including written assignments, practical skills tests, externally set assessments.
