What will I be learning?
The BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to three A levels and will be studied on a full time basis. It encourages and stimulates achievement through innovative learning and assessment styles, focusing on the applied knowledge and understanding of the specific areas. You will have the opportunity to study; music performance, music rehearsal & performance techniques, computer music production, composition & song writing, business & marketing/promotion, as well as music video.
Students may also receive specialist music tuition, and may be given the opportunity to gain music qualifications such as: Rock School graded music exams; Registry of Guitar Teachers instrumental grades, ABRSM Graded Exams and LCM Popular Music.
The BTEC National Diploma consists of 18 units of study; five core units and twelve specialist units which provide a greater specialism in the learners chosen vocational areas. You will aslo do key skills in Communication Level 2.
How will I learn?
In each unit you will be given assignments that are designed to achieve clear outcomes, such as how to create and market a musical product or performance, or how to develop as a musical performer. These assignments will then be graded at pass, merit or distinction level.
Work is applied to specific work related situations or activities, providing relevant scenarios for developing ideas, often with opportunities for teamwork and in-depth study. Later in the course you will have a final major project to complete which will reinforce your knowledge and understanding across the programme.
What else might I want to know?
You will need to supply your own musical instruments (guitar, bass
etc. Drum kits are supplied in the rehearsal rooms).
In some areas you may also be required to produce a portfolio of work or take part in an audition.
There will be a Eighty Pounds materials fee which will be paid at enrolment. You can apply for funding to help with this cost if applicable.
What can I do afterwards?
The BTEC National Diploma prepares you for direct entry into employment in the music performance & creative indstries, and progression to Higher Education.
