Course Summary:
The full-time Coaching and Fitness Certificate at Nescot College is a 2-year course for students who want to go into employment within the sport, coaching or health and fitness industries or on to a sports-related Higher Education course.

The course consists of a mixture of theoretical and practical sessions (in the gym or sports hall), which will support your studies. Activities include lectures, group work, workshops and discussion groups along side practical sports and coaching sessions. Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to take part in additional activities and gain additional qualifications, including a YMCA Certificate in Fitness Instructing.

We cater for a wide range of sports including rugby, basketball, tennis, hockey, badminton and women's football. We have a men's College football squad as well as a football academy plus a wide range of sporting and enrichment activities.

Sporting ability is not a requirement for entry onto the course, but an interest in sport is!

The course covers 12 units:

- Health, Safety in Sport
- Training and Fitness for Sport
- Sports Coaching
- Sports Development
- Fitness Testing for Sports and Exercise
- Practical Team Sports

Specialist Units:
- Sports Nutrition
- Sport and Society
- Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
- Sport and Exercise Massage
- Work-based Experience in Sport

All units are assessed individually through assignments, presentations and practical sport and coaching assessment.

Nescot College reserve the right to change these units as the course demands.

Additional Activities and Qualifications:
- FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football
(incorporates FA Emergency Aid Award and Child Protection Certificate) or the option of additional National Governing Body Coaching Awards (e.g. basketball, badminton, rugby or netball)
- First Aid Course
- 2 week work placement in the Sport, Coaching or the Health and Fitness Industry
- YMCA Certificate in Fitness Instructing

An additional funding contribution will be required towards the costs of any additional qualifications undertaken during the course.

Career Progression:
Students can progress to the Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy at NESCOT or move on to other Higher Education courses including Sports Science, Sports Coaching and Sports Studies at other academic institutions.

Successful students can seek employment opportunities in the sports coaching, recreation or health and fitness industries.

Fees:
You will be provided with all the resources and materials needed for your programme. However, we have found in the past that learners purchase additional items and by buying in bulk we can gain a good discount. Therefore additional material fees are expected to be paid at enrolment to cover the following:

- Department sports kit
- Core course text book
- Individual unit trips
- Level 1 coaching qualification
- First Aid qualification

NB: In the 2nd Year of the course we will require the 50 to cover the following:

- YMCA registration fee
- Additional unit trips.

Students eligible for EMA should also apply for a Learner Support Grant before the start of the course. The money is allocated generally on a first-come first-serve basis.
