Course Aims:
Students will develop an understanding of how to use a camera and associated techniques. The course contains an equal mixture of practical and theory work.
Course Content:
The course includes:
- black and white developing
- printing
- darkroom work
- studio portraiture
- history of photography
- the relationship between art & photography.

Exam:
There are three to four assignments and a mini-thesis ( around 1500 words ) which must be completed. There is also a controlled test at the end of the course which is externally moderated. Students will keep a visual diary in which they record ideas, observations, research, technical details, etc. This diary will contribute towards assignment grades.

There is a materials fee attached to this course, this contributes towards the cost of chemicals and equipment etc. Students will be expected to provide their own film and paper, which are available from the college.
