What will I study?
The AS course offers a foundation in the contemporary British political system, developing knowledge, understanding and skills for citizenship. You study the nature of mass political and democratic participation, including elections, political parties and pressure groups and protest movements. Elite institutions such as Parliament and Government and the new constitutional dynamics of devolution, electoral and parliamentary reform and the impact of Europe are all analysed as to their nature and impact.
At A2 we consider the theoretical ideas and conceptual understanding of four of the main ideologies, including socialism and anarchism, together with their historical and modern interpretations and realisation. Taking an international perspective, we go on to study contemporary Global Political Issues including terrorism, human rights, poverty and the environment.
