The aim of this course is to prepare you for entry into the exciting world of exercise, health and fitness. You will come awy from this course ready to undertake your first piad position in one of the 1000s of gyms and fitness locations aroundm the country or even world due to this internationally recognised qualification. Suitable for: This is suitable for anybody 16 years old or over. Attending a gym would be beneficial but not essential. Ability to communicate with basic literacy and numeracy skills required.

When studying for this course you will study the structure and function of the skeletal, muscular and cardiorespiratory systems and the relationship with exercise as well as the components of fitness, nutrition, and the nervous system. You will be shown various warm up and cool down techniques, use of resistance machines, free weights, body weight and cardio vascular machines and flexibility and so some experience in these areas will be beneficial for your study.
You will also be taught the principles of training and how to develop a training programme to improve clients health, fitness and conditioning. The course will ensure you understand the principles of fitness programming for a variety of clients including pre natal, children aged over 14 years, healthy older adults, and clients with disabilities. As exercise comes with a risk you will also cover screening of clients for safety of both you and them, risk factor identification and how and when to refer them to other specialists. As a fitness instructor you will need to understand the theory behind why people do and do not exercise and the adherence to exercise theory. As you will be working with the public and clients on a daily basis you will be taught the customer focus elements of the fitness instructor role and the course will cover the risks associated with fitness instructing and ensuring the well being of all clients. By the end of this course you will be ready to enter the fitness instructing business ready to work as a fitness professional being able to give advice and support to your clients. Exercise Teachers will give you an excellent foundation of knowledge to confidently continue in your career as a fitness professional and enter the rewarding and fantastic career as a personal trainer with level 3 courses.
Course assessment format
You will complete a Learner Achievement Portfolio which will include:
- Standardised worksheets
- Risk assessment safety planning document and screening forms
- Session planning worksheet
- Direct observation of candidate instructing a gym session
- Session evaluation worksheet
- One internally marked 30 question examination (weekend two) and one105 minute theory paper consisting of fifty multiple choice questions on the final assessment weekend (weekend three).
