What are the entry requirements?
You will be assessed on your English and Maths skills at interview. You will be required to have the equivalents of four GCSEs grade E-F.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
  • Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 3

  • You can read longer pieces of writing and understand the main ideas without help. You can write longer pieces of writing of 100 words or more.
  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 3

  • You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams to solve problems. You can add and subtract and do easy multiplication. You can use fractions and simple decimals.


What qualification will I receive?
BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care, equivalent to four GCSEs at Grade D.

Where can it lead?
You could take a qualification at level 2 in the same or an alternative sector, for example a BTEC First Diploma.

What will I study?
Subjects you will study include: Starting Work In Health & Social Care, Health And Environment, Looking After Children And Developing Skills In Health And Social Care. You will also do a key skill in either literacy or numeracy.

How will I be taught?
You will be taught through a mixture of practical activities, group work, individual work and role play.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the year via written assignments including the production of booklet, posters and leaflets. Two of the assignments are set externally by the awarding body.

What support is available while I am on the course?
Language support is available. You will also have regular tutorials and assignment workshops. A personal tutor will help you to make the most of your time at the College.
