The apprenticeship will enable those working in the Health & Social Care Sector to become occupationally qualified and comply with the mandatory requirements of the Care Standards Act 2000. Suitable for: Employed people over 16 years who work as home care assistants, community support assistants, healthcare. assistants and residential or day service assistants. Options may be available for volunteers or those not currently employed

Course programme

Course outline: An apprenticeship in Health & Social Care is a framework of qualifications designed to support the development of
occupational competence of Care employees . The apprentice completes the NVQ, the Certificate in Health & Social Care, Key Skills Communication and Application of Number and a short course on Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

Delivery: Learning is usually provided by attendance at a series of small group learning sessions arranged according to the employers requirements. The NVQ is assessed by observation in the workplace and testimony of the learner’s practice, supported by questioning of knowledge to provide evidence of competence.

Accreditation: City & Guilds 3172-21

Level: Level 2

Usual Duration: 9 - 12 months

Progression: Health & Social Care Advanced Apprenticeship

Additional information

Payment options: There is no charge for learners under 19 yrs. Cost for over 19 years is negotiated depending on the employers other contributions, such as time for study during working hours or provision of access to the internet with a minimum charge of £100 for registration.
