What are the Course Details?
This course is unique as learners will attend sessions at both North Lindsey College and John Leggott College. What are the Entry Requirements?
Applications are welcome from learners who have GCSE Maths and English grade D or above.


What will I Learn?

The Potential of Technology
In this unit you will learn how organisations use IT and how technology is changing the way they operate. Learners will find out about components of technology systems - what they do and how they work - and identify opportunities for organisations to implement a technology system.


Exploring Organisations
This unit will look at how different organisations are structured and how they use technology to support business processes. Learners will be able to recognise the factors that contribute to a successful business.


Effective Communications
Learners will learn about the different types of communication media used in business and use IT to develop communication skills. Learners will explore how behaviour and attitude affects a team's performance and they will develop their ability to work effectively as part of a team.


Skills for Innovation
In this unit you will investigate business opportunities, analyse information using numerical and graphical techniques and successfully present a business proposal.


Technology Systems
This unit will enable learners to understand the role of key components of networked PC systems and learn how to assemble them to create a simple computer network. Learners will design and develop a database system to meet a user need and learn how to use testing and feedback to help create effective systems.


Multimedia
This unit allows learners to create different types of digital media - audio, video, animation, still images and text - and combine them to design, develop and test an effective multimedia product fit for an audience.


Managing Projects
In this unit you will learn how to plan and manage successful projects. Learners will recognise the factors that determine the success of IT projects and produce a project proposal for a small scale IT project.


How will I Learn?
The Diploma combines theory and classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience. Sessions are mainly delivered in IT rooms where learners will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic IT situations.


How will I be Assessed?
The Principal Learning is assessed through assignment work, except Unit 1 which is an external assessment. Learners will be awarded a Diploma Grade depending on the depth and quality of the work produced.


What Enrichments are Available?
Learners are able to select from a range of enrichment options that match their timetable at the start of the academic year. A variety of enrichment options exist including many sporting and other activities to enhance your experience at college.


Are there any Trips or Visits?
Visits to organisations are an essential part of the course in order to observe how organisations work and the role technology plays.


Is there any Work Experience?
Learners are required to complete 10 days' work experience, related to work based activities, to support the programme of study.


What can I Progress to?
Diplomas are designed to support progression to further study, training or employment.

On successful completion of an IT Higher Diploma, learners can progress to an Advanced Diploma in a range of subjects, other level 3 qualifications including BNA for IT Practitioners or to seek employment in the IT industry.
