Who the Course is For:
A Higher National Certificate is a vocational programme with a strong work related emphasis focusing on an in-depth theoretical analysis to the application of engineering principles and techniques. It provides a thorough grounding in the key concepts & practical skills required in the modern engineering industry. A HNC is intended for self motivated individuals looking to enhance their promotional prospects/further their education. It's delivered in part time study (1 day a week) over 2 years
Assessment:
By coursework, assignment, practical investigations, phase tests and end of unit examinations.
Course Leads To:
A top-up option is available to progress from a HNC to a Foundation Degree in one year part-time study.
Entry Requirements:
An appropriate technical certificate in Electrical Engineering (AVCE, GNVQ, BTEC National Cert. or Dip. - min 120 CAT points), an A/AS Level profile including Mathematics - min 120 CAT points or an Access to Higher Education or Bridging Cert. in Engineering.Students who have an appropriate trade qualification (C&G/EMTA) at Level 2 or 3 would need to complete a bridging course (ie BTEC Advanced Dip. in Engineering Principles).All applicants are required to attend an interview prior to enrolment.

Requirement
An appropriate certificate in engineering or art equivalent to 120 UCAS points (AVCE, GNVQ, BTEC National Certificate or Diploma, and A/AS Level profile. An Access to Higher Education or Bridging Certificate. Students who do not meet the entry requirements but have a history of industry experience will also be considered. These together with those who have an appropriate trade qualification (City & Guilds/IMI) at level 2 or 3 will be required to complete a bridging course.
