• an intermediate GNVQ
• a BTEC first diploma
• an NVQ Level 2/technical certificate
• successful completion of an apprenticeship course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.

Progression:
On successful completion you may progress onto one of the following foundation degrees at the College:
- hospitality management
- business management
- tourism
or a wide range of careers in the catering and hospitality industry.
Entry Requirements:
In our experience in order to be successful on this course you will need one of the following:
• five GCSEs at grades A*-C (including English and maths)
• an intermediate GNVQ
• a BTEC first diploma
• an NVQ Level 2/technical certificate
• successful completion of an apprenticeship course
• equivalent qualifications or relevant work experience.
Duration: Two years (but after one year you will have completed a certificate) Course Overview
What does the course involve?:
Units studied include:
- food and beverage operations
- Asian cuisine
- European cuisine
- themed event planning
- business enterprise
- work experience
- marketing
- health and safety
- business operations
- healthy eating
- human resources
In addition, you can study the following optional courses:
• food safety
• personal licence
• professional bartenders certificate
• barista.
Planned work experience in industry settings is a programmed part of your course and are encouraged to hold a relevant part-time job.
When can I study?:
Full-time generally four days at college and one evening per week to work in the restaurant.
Are there any exams?:
Assessment throughout the course is continuous in every subject. You are not only assessed on written work but also in practical situations, on your appearance, attitude and teamwork, as well as technical skills. Some units are assessed externally.
