Human rights law is a pervasive subject, particularly as UK legislation needs to be compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights signed in 1950. Students on this Human Rights Law short course are given cases from various areas of law including family, criminal, refugee and employment law within which human rights articles have been invoked. Students learn what the specific Rights are. In addition, they learn about the rights and obligations that the state and the individual respectively have.Lively discussions are held on current issues concerning human rights, e.g. the application of the law to suspected terrorists, or the exercise of freedom of expression concerning articles that may appear obscene. Teaching and Assessment
