What will I study?
NPTC Certificate in Skills for Working Life - Motor Vehicle Units and IMI Level 1 Award in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
· Working safely and effectively - foundation skills
· Vehicle construction and routine maintenance
· Operating principles of tyres, brakes, steering and suspension
· Operating principles of engines
· Operating principles of transmission engines
· Operating principles of electrical and electronic systems
· Key skills will be part of this course.
You will have the opportunity to work in a motor vehicle workshop at New College Stamford, although there will be theory work as well.
What qualities and skills do I need?
· An ability to work with your hands and apply theory to a practical situation
· An ability to work in a structured manner and follow instructions
· Good at working in a practical way
· An interest in the subject of car service and repair.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will be carried out continuously throughout the course by means of practical assessment, written tasks and assignment work.
What equipment will I need?
Correctly fitting safety boots, overalls, writing materials and a ring binder.
Visits and trips?
You will be offered the opportunity to take part in trips and visits and presentations related to the industry.
How long will the course take?
Half or one day a week for two years or as agreed with your school.
Where can this course lead me when I finish school?
Further study: IMI Certificate or Diploma in Motor Vehicle or an Apprenticeship.
