What you will learn
Assessment
Coursework forms 20% of the total mark in each course.
All examinations take place in May of the second year.
In all Mathematical Studies exams any calculator is allowed.
In Mathematics Standard and Higher exams, one paper is non-calculator.
What else do I need to know?
Whilst all the courses develop students' mathematical knowledge and ability to apply maths to real life contexts, Mathematics (Higher and Standard) extend much further the mathematics learnt, while Mathematical Studies concentrates more on the applications of mathematics.
Mathematical Studies is sufficient for nearly all University courses. Students who want to study Maths at University or need Maths to support Physics or Engineering at University should take A Levels in Maths and Physics rather than IB.
