Introduction to Chainsaw Use

This one day course is designed as an introduction to the safe domestic use and maintenance of the chainsaw.

This is an ideal course for those wishing to use a chainsaw at home or in their woods specifically to clear and process wood.

The course will cover how to set up your saw, maintain the chain, safe starting and cross-cutting timber that has already been felled.

This course does not cover felling and is not suitable for those people who use a chainsaw in an industrial capacity.

Equipment Required for "Use of Chainsaw" Courses

PPE

Safety Helmet - Groundwork (HSE Recommended EN 397 with ear protection to EN 352 -3 & mesh visor to EN 1731) (Not exceeding 3 years old)

Chainsaw protective Gloves (HSE Recommended to EN 381-7)

Chainsaw Trousers (HSE Recommended to EN 381-5 (Chainsaw chaps are not suitable for College training)

Chainsaw Boots (HSE Recommended to EN 381-3) (Spats are not suitable for College training)

Other

Chainsaw - Max 15inch guide bar length with sufficient fuel and chain oil

General chainsaw maintenance equipment, including a chain filing kit etc.

Additional Information

The above PPE must be provided by the candidate attending

Suitable non snag outdoor clothing including waterproofs, you should be prepared for all weather conditions.

Chainsaws can be hired from college for a cost of £5 for the day. Please mention this when applying
