IT Practitioner National Certificate
The BTEC National IT Practitioner Certificate course offers a vocational alternative to A level computing. Each unit combines practical work on computers with theory lessons covering the underpinning concepts and knowledge. The units have been chosen to give students an opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in the field of software support and development. Students will learn software design alongside supporting and maintaining computer systems.

What does the course involve?
The National Certificate is an excellent qualification for students who are considering a career in the IT industry, but who want to keep their options open by studying other subjects as well. For students wanting an end-user focus to their IT studies the Applied A level in ICT may be more appropriate.

Students receive a grade of Pass, Merit or Distinction for each of the 12 units. A Distinction overall is equivalent to two 'A' levels at grade 'A'.

The National Certificate is well established and well regarded by both employers and higher education institutions. Students who decide their future is in IT may go on to study a Foundation Degree in Computing or other degree courses.

What will I study?
The course covers 12 units spread over two years and takes 10 hours per week. The 6 units covered in the first year will be communication and employability skills, computer systems, information systems, software design and development, website production and management and event driven programming.
