Italian for Beginners

Level: This is a beginners course.

What is the Italian for Beginners course?
This course is suitable for those who have no prior knowledge of the language and is designed to give the absolute beginner confidence in speaking Italian from the very start. It will cover vocabulary and structures that are needed for purposes of practical communication for holidays, business or entertaining speakers of the Italian language in this country.

Course topics

• Exchanging personal information about family life and work
• Dealing with hotels and restaurants
• Transactions in shops and banks
• Asking the way
• Discussing leisure activities

Teaching and Learning
You will work in pairs or small groups to practise expressions and sentence patterns and develop practical comprehension skills through reading, listening to recordings, watching DVDs and using the Internet and language laboratory.

You will meet material in the form of everyday dialogues, interviews of native speakers and short written texts such as advertisements and tourist leaflets, which provide a wealth of words and expressions. As they arise in context, the grammatical structures necessary for effective communication will be explained and practised.

You will be expected to set aside at least one hour a week between classes for private study.

Assessment details
There are no formal assessments. You will receive a College certificate on completion of the course.
