Course content:
Have you been knitting for some time and want to be more creative with it, have you just started knitting, or have you long been meaning to start? This course is designed to cover all aspects of basic knitting · casting on and off, increasing and decreasing stitches, as well as a basic range of stitches - but also teaches you the building blocks of designing your own knitwear. This free taster will look at some of the key elements of knitwear and outline the options for what you can make over this 11 week long course.
By the end of the course students will be able to:
- Recognise the basic stitches
- Understand how to cast on and off.
- Know how to hold thread and do basic plain stitch.
- Understand how they will build their own design project.
- Be aware of the design project options available to them on the course.
Course Structure:
The class is divided between learning new skills, consolidating and practising the skills already acquired, and working on the individual student's design project.
Students need to bring a notebook and A4 folder, basic sewing kit and oddments of DK yarn and a pair of 4.00 mm knitting needles. Later on, once students have decided on their design project, they will need to purchase wool.
Course resources:
We supply the knitting machines. All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.
Assessment:
Tutor and self-assessment. ILPs measuring outcomes.

Fees Info
When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.
