Glass Artist / Tutor

Naomi has been working in glass for approx 12 years specialising in blown glass, kiln glass, cold working and lampworking.

Course programme

On this course you will learn the ancient art and absorbing skill of glass bead making made famous by the Italians on the island of Murano.

Glass beads are made by melting thin glass rods in a torch flame and winding the melted glass around a steel rod. Decorations are added through application of more glass in a variety of forms and other materials. You will have sole use of a hothead torch and a selelction of tools to make your first collection of beads.

'The courses I will be running are now and always will be open to the complete beginner as well as those wanting to hone their talent and build upon the skills they already have. Everything we have ever done, we have had to do for the first time at some point, so if your intrigued, curious maybe but sat there thinking "but I've never done it before" or worse "I wouldn't be able to" then this is the course for you. I teach no more than 6 people in each lesson, which allows me to interact with each student and help them structure their time to get the most out of the course. I will always teach the technical groundwork needed to use the equipment safely and I'll always be on hand should any student require extra help. Each lesson will be 80% making at the torch and each student will create beadwork that they will be able to take away, clean and finish and hopefully use to create beautiful pieces to use as decoration or to wear.

Materials are extra: Glass rods are available from Naomi at £1 each on the day, you will normally require between 3 and 6 rods.
