Level 1 Award in Vocational Studies (Advanced Skills for Working Life)
This is a one year course which looks at various vocational environments around us and gives you the opportunity to gain a basic understanding of what these areas involve. The course is designed to give the support you need to improve your skills ready for progressing onto a level 2 course or to gain employment.

What does the course consist of?
You will complete a number of vocational units which may include Business, Sport, Art and Design, Performing Arts and Music. You will also upgrade your English, Maths and ICT skills. In addition, you will learn about ways to increase your chances of getting a job through personal presentation and interview skills.
You will be expected to complete a successful work experience placement.
You will have the benefit of having a dedicated personal tutor who will support you during the year.

What else do I need to know?
Each unit will be graded pass, merit or distinction. You receive 1 point for a pass, 2 points for a merit and 3 points for a distinction. You will receive 1 point for a pass, 2 points for a merit and 3 points for a distinction. To achieve the National Award at pass level, you must get 8 points in total, for a merit you need 13 points and for a distinction you need 19 points.
If you want to progress onto a second year course (at Level 2) you will need a Merit or Distinction grade overall and you must have passed your English and Maths courses.
You will also get the opportunity to join one of our enrichment clubs and take up a sport with our various teams and clubs.
