Business Administration
This course is aimed at students who prefer coursework and enjoy learning in a practical hands-on way. Completion of the course will give students the skills required to gain an administrative position. The taught elements of business administration theory and concepts are developed through practical application, such as simulated business activities, case studies and working within an office environment.
Students are encouraged to become independent learners, with the focus of the learning on applying knowledge and skill to the workplace, to industry standards. Students will need to develop effective time management skills to meet deadlines set for coursework submission and completion of "real life tasks". Additionally, students will be required to undertake some tasks as a member of a team as well as completing tasks on an individual basis.
Lessons are timetabled for 3 hours per week which will include completion of set assignments and working in the simulated office environment. Additionally, support is given on a one to one basis to help students build their portfolio of work.

What Will I Learn on This Course?
In order to gain the Award, candidates have to complete three units, one mandatory and two optional units which have been selected.
Mandatory unit- Administration, Team Working and personal Development.
Optional Units- Communication Techniques and Information management AND Administration Functions
Topics covered in the above units will enable students to: use administrative systems including filing, advantages and disadvantages of working in a team, effective time management, different types of communication, how to research and present information, the role of the receptionist including management of diaries and how to arrange business travel and accommodation.
Course Content and Method of Assessment
All units are coursework based, which is assessed continuously throughout the course, enabling students to be fully aware of achievement as they progress. Coursework is graded as Pass or Fail.
After the Course?
Students will have the skills necessary to enter the workplace in an administrative role. Successful completion of Level 2 would enable students to advance onto a level 3 Business Administration course.
Subject Combinations
Students will be strongly encouraged to also sign up for OCR Text processing and where applicable, Shorthand. These complementary subjects would greatly enhance the students ability to find employment in a business administrative environment.
