Introduction

This certificate develops those who already have knowledge and skills in gym instruction, to a professionally competent level to be able to plan and deliver safe and effective non-music-based circuit sessions. Whilst also broadening the skills of gym instructors to include instructing group sessions in the form of non-music-based circuit training

The Active IQ Certificate in Instructing Circuit Sessions is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. It is also recognised by The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) at level 2, but does not provide access onto the Register. Entry onto the Register is gained via a recognised level 2 gym qualification

Course Structure and Assessment

This qualification is delivered over two workshop days and one assessment day four weeks later.

  • Design, delivery and evaluation of a circuit session

  • A suitable Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing
  • Some experience of circuit training is useful
  • The course requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential; therefore, a degree of physical fitness is necessary
  • There is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at level 2
