BTEC First Diploma - One-year course
This course provides students with an opportunity to work on practical media projects and learn how media institutions operate. Students will gain a broad understanding of how the media industries work, the products they make and how they are employed.
The course includes three core units which include: Introduction to the Media Industries; Research for Media Production; and Introduction to Media Audiences and Products. Students will also study specialist units, which will focus on: Audio; Advertising; Web Authoring and Factual Production for the media.
Students are assessed by a combination of internal marking and external verification. Most of the assessments are practical assignments, produced throughout the course.
Careers and Further Studies
With further training or study aimed towards degree level, students could go into a wide range of careers in the media such as: broadcasting, sound production, publishing or film, video and TV production.
A BTEC First Diploma prepares students for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as the more specialist BTEC National Diploma in Media Production at SEEVIC College.
General Entry Requirements
At least two GCSEs at grade D or above or a BTEC Introductory Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.
