Travel and Tourism
BTEC First Diploma - One-year course
This course is for students who are enthusiastic about the tourism industry. The BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work related course. Students are assessed solely by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities.

It introduces them to the employment area they have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work related qualification.

The course is made up of six units - three core units, which everyone takes, and three specialist units. Core units:
  • UK Travel and Tourism Industry
  • UK Travel and Tourism Destinations
  • Exploring Customer Service Specialist units, which enable students to study particular tourism areas in more depth:
  • European Holiday Destinations
  • Planning Visits for Travel and Tourism
  • Exploring marketing in Travel and Tourism

Visits are arranged to enable students to research the tourism industry first hand. Examples of past trips include: EuroDisney; Thorpe Park; and London.

Careers and Further Studies
With further training or study, students can go into careers in the Travel and Tourism industry. A BTEC First Diploma prepares students for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as the BTEC National Diploma in Travel and Tourism at SEEVIC College.

General Entry Requirements
At least two GCSEs at grade D or above or a BTEC Introductory Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.
