An Apprenticeship is a national work based training programme designed for individual industries. Apprenticeships are a great way of earning - and learning - at the same time.
Apprentices will attend Highbury College City of Portsmouth Centre 1 day per week to undertake taught practical sessions. The rest of the time will be spent learning on the job with the employer. Apprentices will build a portfolio of work and have on-site visits to observe their ability and skills in their daily role.
How long will the Apprenticeship take?
This depends on your motivation and the support of your employer. The Apprenticeship is approximately 1 year and the Advanced Apprenticeship is approximately 1 ½ - 2 years
The content of the course depends on which route you follow. Units for Professional Cookery could include:
Cook and finish basic poultry dishes
Cook and finish basic shellfish dishes
Or, if you followed a Food & Drink Service route example units you could cover include:
Contribute towards effective teamwork
Prepare and service cocktails

A Training Advisor will work with you and your employer to review your progress throughout the Apprenticeship.
Progress reports will be given to your employer by your tutors.
