2. Course description The BTEC Extended Diploma in Drama and Musical Theatre is an exciting full time course which represents the first stage in your training to work in performing arts industries. You will take part in a number of different performances over the two years exploring a wide variety of theatrical styles including Realism Classical Theatre Physical Theatre Monologues and even Stand up Comedy. Your involvement in the shows will not only help you to develop your skills as an actor but will also give you the opportunity to explore techniques for devising and directing designing and marketing costume and make up.

3. Entry requirements A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English Language. Drama and Musical Theatre students are also required to take part in a practical workshop audition to establish their suitability for the course this will be arranged following your initial admissions interview. 4. Equipment required Please enquire at your interview. 5. Assessment method Assessment of the BTEC Extended Diploma in Drama and Musical Theatre takes the form of a professional working production. You will be assessed on your contribution to the rehearsal process as well as your performance in the show itself. You will also be required to keep a journal and compile a portfolio of character and contextual research for each production which will be assessed against the Edexcel grading criteria. Other units which are not performance-based will be assessed through presentations the production of instructional leaflets research portfolios or essays. You will complete 18 Units over the two years. Each unit carries the grade Pass Merit or Distinction. At the end of your two year course the number of Pass Merit and Distinction grades you have achieved for individual units is used to calculate your final grade. This grade will be used in your applications to higher education or will be the grade you put on your CV.
