Course programme

Edexcel (2 years)
Starting in September 2010 Peter Symonds College will be introducing the Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance.
The Diploma can be used as a stepping stone into virtually any type of business in the UK or onto university. That's because the knowledge acquired by Diploma students is equally relevant whether they want to enter human resources, sales and marketing, financial services, learning and development or any one of the vast range of different businesses operating across the globe. Employers value individuals who understand what business is all about and how it works, who have qualities like self-motivation and flexibility and who can work well in a team and communicate effectively.
In return there are exciting, global opportunities, rewarding careers and high salaries for the most successful young people.
The UK is an enterprise culture and young people play a pivotal part in this. In the last year, it is estimated that around 70,000 young people started new businesses in England and Wales. Starting a business is a steep learning curve and the new Diploma has been developed to give young people a head start by providing them with essential business skills and understanding.
What is the Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance?
Developing technologies are changing the way businesses work, with a greater emphasis on remote working. Individual job roles are also changing. The Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance has been developed to provide a solid grounding in up-to-the-minute business skills for young people who are interested in any kind of business career or aspire to running their own business. The Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance also provides important life skills, such as planning and managing personal finances, and preparing to enter the world of work. The Diploma includes 5 days work placement each year, and an ongoing development of your skills with our business partners throughout the duration of the diploma. It is flexible so students who have an idea what kind of career they may wish to follow can prepare for the next step. Those who do not can tailor a broad programme of learning to suit their interests and abilities.
The Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance is built around three main themes:
* Business enterprise: Looks at how to develop ideas, how to carry out research and promote products or services.
* Business administration: Introduces business administration and its importance to organisations.
* Finance: Looks at the knowledge and skills needed to manage personal and business finances.
What can a Diploma lead to?
A Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance will give you the skills you need for either university or work, and is a first step towards a career in the sector. Your work placement and ongoing involvement with our business partners will have already given you a real insight into the business world.
It could lead you to a university degree in business administration, marketing or management or a career in human resources, sales and marketing, financial services, learning and development or any one of the vast range of different businesses operating across the globe. However, the Diploma in Business, Administration and Finance doesn't mean you have to opt for a career in administration or finance. Because a Diploma teaches a mix of subjects, it will give you the skills that will be welcomed by colleges, universities and employers, no matter what you choose to do.
What does the Diploma involve?
Students study three parts to earn a Diploma, regardless of subject or level.
