Course programme

This two year programme offers progression from the Subsidiary Diploma through to the Extended Diploma, dependent on your entry grades and achievement in year one. Students will study the following units: -Developing effective communication in health and social care -Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care -Health, safety and security in health and social care -Development through the life stages -Fundamentals of anatomy and physiology -Personal and professional development -Sociological perspectives -Psychological perspectives -Caring for children and young people -Safeguarding adults and promoting independence -Public health -Nutrition -Research methodology -Physiological disorders -Caring for older people -Health psychology -Technology in health and social care Students will undertake work experience as organised by the College and are encouraged to develop an all round profile through extra-curricular voluntary and fund raising activities. All students without an A*-C grade in English or Maths will be required as a condition of the programme to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.You will be taught by a team of experienced lecturers using a variety of teaching methods; you will learn through a mixture of practical and theoretical work, both in and outside of college. Assessment is through a combination of written work and practical assignments Attendance in the College is 15 hours per week and students should expect to spend the same amount of time on assignment work outside of class Year One students will be interviewed to determine suitability for Year Two progression.
