Media Production
BTEC National Diploma - Two-year course
This course offers students a challenging and stimulating introduction to this expanding field. They will get a good grounding in the skills used in a range of media-related areas including television, film, publishing and animation.

The course has particular reference to writing, editing and filming for production. The work is accomplished using excellent facilities including digital video and audio editing suites, a photographic studio and a digital stills imaging suite. Students will have support from a team of specialised media tutors and facilitators.

Students also study and practice the vital media skills of managing productions, working in teams, researching, interviewing and presenting. There will be the opportunity to choose from specialist pathways in Print-Based and Interactive Media.

Underpinning the vocational side of the course is the analytical study of Media Products, Media industries and media audiences to enable learners to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a variety of sectors of the media industry.

Coursework assignments include the planning and production of an advertising campaign, location assignments, producing films, documentaries and other production projects. Students will attend a two-week work placement in the second year.

Careers and Further Studies
Opportunities for work in the media industries are intensely competitive, but students have found that this qualification prepares them for a variety of vocational contexts, as well as equipping them with the study skills required for Higher Education.

General Entry Requirements
At least four GCSEs at grade C or above or a BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level.
