During the programme you build a portfolio of your BSL Level 4 Interpreting skills. This is used to show that you meet the National Occupational Standard in Interpreting. We'll provide all the equipment and support you need to build your portfolio. You'll be assigned to an assessor, who will support you through one to one assessment, tutorials and supervision. Suitable for: This programme is for you if you: have achieved Signature Level 4 NVQ in BSL. have worked with the deaf community for a minimum of one year. have attended an interpreter training programme. have experience of Interpreting. wish to register as Trainee Interpreter (TI). want to qualify as a BSL/English interpreter

About this course
Before booking on the course, you will need to attend an Information and Selection day. This is so we can assess your skills and make sure you are ready to start your course. We will be looking at your BSL and English interpreting skills through a range of interactive exercises. The session also gives you an opportunity: • to meet the trainers • get more detailed information on the course and assessment process • find out what will be expected of you • find out what you can expect from our tutors • ask any questions.

Overview
Introduction: two days
These two days include information on how to build a portfolio of written and video evidence, description of the NVQ terminology and how to meet the criteria outlined in the qualification standards.
You will have an initial planning meeting with your allocated assessor. On the second day there will be chance to start collecting your video evidence.
Video evidence collection: three days
This is an opportunity to collect video evidence of your interpreting skills for your portfolio
Assessment and guidance meeting: two days
You’ll discuss progress on your portfolio with your assessor and produce a plan to complete your portfolio.
Final assessment and guidance meetings: one day
Your assessor will give you one-to-one support and advice in completing your portfolio.
Portfolio Hand In: one day
You submit your portfolio to us.
The final stage of the process are:
An Internal Verifier assesses your portfolio. An External verifier from the awarding body, Signature, will sample portfolios to ensure that you have met the standards described in the award.
On completing the course, you can then register as a Member of the Register of BSL/English Interpreters (MRSLI) with the National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind people (NRCPD). Find out more about registering on the NRCPD website, .
