Manage Absence Introduction Most employers expect and tolerate a certain amount of absence, but many find that the effects of persistent short-term absenteeism on profitability and employee morale, often by a few offenders, can be very damaging.
Persistent short-term absenteeism can be, for employers, both difficult to deal with and frustrating. Many accept that a certain amount of such absenteeism is unavoidable, but there comes a time when a reasonable employer is entitled to say 'enough is enough' and terminate the employment relationship. The difficulty lies in assessing exactly when that time has come.
Over 1 million people each day are estimated to be away from work either because of sickness or other unanticipated reason. At a company level the cost of absence can be significant, high absence costs are likely to mean excessive overheads and can cause a number of problems. Course Objectives
