Course Overview

The course aims to increase counsellors’ confidence in

• Assessing the appropriateness of Relate counselling and working with couples where mental health issues are present
• How to work safely and ethically with couples in this context

Objectives

By the end of the training participants will have:

• Thought about their own fears and prejudices and how these might impact on their work
• Gained knowledge of Relate’s position in relation to working with clients where there are mental health issues
• Demonstrated assessment and contracting with clients who may be experiencing mental health difficulties
• Carified what interventions to use in the context of Relate’s work with relationships
• Clarity about when and how to liaise with mental health professionals
