What are the Course Details?
This is a full-time Level 1 course certificated by the Institute of the Motor Industry.
The course includes theoretical and practical work in the following subjects:

• Vehicle Body Technology
• Vehicle Refinishing Technology
• Vehicle Body Repair Techniques
• General Engineering
• Welding
• Accident Damage Estimating

These activities will be based in the College's well-equipped vehicle body repair workshop.


Is the Course for Me?
This course will suit learners with an interest in gaining employment in a vehicle body repair shop or associated industries.



What will I Learn?
As part of this course learners will gain general bodyshop experience and study the following units:

• Automotive Vehicle Workshop Environment Studies
• Preparing Automotive Vehicle Bodies for Refinishing
• Repair Automotive Vehicle Bodies
• Remove and Replace Non-Structural Body Panels and Components
• Prepare and Apply Foundation Materials

How will I Learn?
Learners will attend formal technology classes in both Vehicle Body Repair and Vehicle Refinishing. These will be reinforced by practical workshop sessions to complete practical assessments. There will be further workshop time for larger projects.

How will I be Assessed?
Learners' performance will be measured with a combination of written tests, computer based tests and practical assessments.

What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to various activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life. Learners will also be able to access Functional Skills in Communication, Application of Number and IT, at a level appropriate to their individual abilities.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
Trips and visits do not form a part of this course but learners are encouraged to take part in enrichment activities.

Is there any Work Experience?
Work experience does not form a part of this course although learners will spend significant time in the College workshops.

What can I Progress to?
The aim of the course is to prepare learners for employment in a vehicle body repair shop or associated industries. Once in employment, after successfully completing the course, learners will be able to complete an NVQ.
Alternatively learners can progress onto the IMI Technical Certificate in Motor Vehicle Body Repair and Refinishing.

Many ex-College learners have been successful in gaining employment with local employers.
