Who is the programme for? The programme is for anyone who would like to seek employment with an airline: at an airport or with a ground handling company. This programme is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge which are needed to work in a fast moving and challenging environment of daily flight operations.
What will I study? This is the stand alone professional qualification recognised by the aviation industry. It will provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to embark on a fulfilling and rewarding career in civil aviation. The qualification includes the following units of study: 1.The Aviation Industry 2. Health, Safety and Security in the Aviation Industry 3. Meeting Customer Needs in the Aviation Industry 4. Air Travel Information 5. Handling Air Passengers 6. Airport Ramp Handling and Airport Operations In addition to your time in college you will spend a number of days on site visits and attend lectures given by aviation professionals.
Entry to the Programme?
How is it assessed? Assessment for this qualification includes internally assessed portfolio work, including research, case studies, role play simulation, observation of practical skills and internally and externally set assignments.
Future prospects? After successful completion of this programme you will have developed the knowledge, understanding and practical skills which are needed for progression to employment as a member of Operations, Dispatch staff or Passenger Service Agents for both Scheduled and Charter Airlines and Airport Handling Companies. Due to the unique working relationship between St. Helens College and Servisair you will have the opportunity to be interviewed for a permanent position at Liverpool or Manchester Airport - initially for a permanent part-time position with a guaranteed number of hours per week, however there will be varying additional hours each week available due to the demands of the business, with the opportunity to apply for full time positions when they arise.
When will the programme start? This is a full time programme for 30 weeks and will commence in September 2009 and complete in May 20010 to ensure you are available for employment for the summer season 2010.

What about the Money? If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees. If you are over 19 years of age
How do I apply? Complete an application form and return it to Student Services, you will then be asked to attend College for an interview.

Entry Requirements

You will need to be educated to a minimum of either: 5 GCSE grades A-C including Maths and English or equivalent key skills awards. BTEC programme level 2 or 3. A or AS level study. You will need to be a minimum of 18 years of age by April 2009 and be able to travel independently to Liverpool or Manchester Airports in order to take advantage of the unique employment opportunity offered at the end of the programme.
