What are the Course Details?
This course has been designed to provide learners with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare for work in different areas of Business, ICT and Office Administration.
It has also been designed to help learners develop their personal skills in areas such as team working, career planning, communication and problem solving.

Is the Course for Me?
This course will suit people who have an interest in learning about Business, Office Administration and Computing activities.

What are the Entry Requirements?
The entry requirements for this course are two GCSE's at Grade F, although other candidates may be considered on merit, subject to an interview.

What will I Learn?
You will study key areas of Business, Office Administration and Computing. In total you will study 12 small units.
6 Mandatory Units:
  • Working as a Team
  • Investigating Business
  • Introducing Practical Business/ICT Skills
  • Investigating Options for Work
  • Communication Skills
  • Problem Solving in Business and ICT

Plus 6 Optional Units (selected by the course tutors) e.g.
  • Office Administration
  • Communication in Business
  • Desktop Publishing
  • Managing Files and Using the Computer
  • Using the Internet
  • Looking after Customers in Travel & Tourism


How will I Learn?
Learning will take place in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace with modules being assignment based.

How will I be Assessed?
Your progress will be monitored on a regular basis through assignments, practical activities and presentations. ALL unit assignments must be completed to a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. There will also be regular tutorials with the Course Tutor to measure your progress and provide guidance.


What Enrichments are Available?
Learners are able to select enrichment activities that match their timetable and suit their own interests at the start of the academic year. A variety of enrichment options exist including many sporting and other activities to enhance your experience of College life.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
A variety of trips and visits will be notified during the academic year.

Is there any Work Experience?
You will complete a one week work experience placement within the College or with a local employer, allowing you to put your newly developed business, administration and computing skills into practice and also to support the Office Administration Unit.

What can I Progress to?
Successful learners will be awarded the OCR Level 1 National Certificate in Business and ICT. This is a nationally recognised qualification that may give learners entry on to a range of courses (subject to successful interview).
These include:
BTEC First Diploma for IT Practitioners
OCR National Certificate in Business Level 2
Computer Maintenance - Level 1
Apprenticeship in Business Administration
BTEC First Diploma in Travel - Level 2

Other Learner's Experiences;
Previous learners have progressed onto Level 2 courses in Business, ICT, Retail and Business Admin Apprenticeships.
