About this course

The minimum age for this course is 18 years.
No previous knowledge of counselling is required.
Candidates should be aware that they should not enter onto another NCFE qualification or award at a similar level and with a similar title to that of this qualification.
We strongly discourage partners and persons in close relationships from attending the same course.

·The target group is those who intentionally use listening skills as part of their functional role, which might be voluntary or waged e.g nurses, police, personnel, line managers, youth workers, ministers of religion etc
·The qualification is also valuable for life-long learning and will enhance personal effectiveness.
·It offers progression to a Level 3 qualification in counselling (e.g S/NVQ) or to an Advanced Certificate in Counselling.
·The qualification could be used as APL evidence for qualifications in related areas of, for example, care or working with children.
·Employers interested in promoting liP would value the qualification for their staff.

"Counselling practice requires considerable mental stamina and self awareness and we respectfully remind you that the courses are for the training of counsellors and not for personal therapy. We would not recommend anyone to undertake counselling courses within two years of experiencing major personal problems."
Course Content
Aims and Objectives
The qualification aims to provide candidates with a sound level of competence in the use of counselling skills. Following the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) guidelines, the qualification alerts candidates to the need to apply skills within an ethical framework. A further aim is to heighten and extend personal awareness and development.

The objectives of this qualification are to enable candidates to:

·Develop self awareness when helping others.
·Develop listening and communication skills for helping relationships.
·Assist others effectively in a helping role.

How will I be assessed?
Candidates will create a portfolio of evidence covering all learning outcome.
What can I do next?
Progression to the next stage is not automatic but will be decided by interview and references from previous tutors.
