The NVQ Level 1 in Multi-skilled Hospitality Services is made up of
seven units, two core units and five optional units.
The core units are:
· Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
· Contribute to effective teamwork.
The optional units are selected by the College and may include:
· Prepare and serve dispensed and instant hot drinks
· Prepare and cook fish
· Prepare and cook meat and poultry
· Service public areas at front of house
· Maintain and deal with payments
· Cook and finish simple bread and dough products
· Prepare and cook eggs
· Prepare and finish simple salad and fruit dishes.
You can gain additional qualifications alongside your main course, including qualifications in Functional Skills as well as more specialist awards that are relevant to the subject.
How will I be assessed?
This qualification is assessed through practical skills tests, online tests, observations of you working, completed assignments and projects.
You will be able to test your practical skills and knowledge in our training kitchens and The Grove restaurant.

Progression
On successful completion you may:
Progress to the NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery, the Higher
Diploma in Hospitality or another Level 2 qualification. Many students decide to combine further study with employment through the Apprenticeship programme. See page 26 for further details.
Or
Take up employment with local, national and international businesses. There is a local, regional and national shortage of good, suitably trained Chefs. The hospitality industry is keen
to recruit students qualified to this level and there is a wide range of career opportunities.
Achieving this qualification will give you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at grades C-E.
