Course structure:
The OCR Level 1 Certificate for IT Users (CLaIT 2006) will provide the opportunity to develop all the basic skills required for a range of different software applications, as well as allow you to effectively manage and complete tasks in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations. To achieve the full Level 1 Diploma for IT Users qualification you must complete the mandatory unit File Management and e-Document Production and 4 optional units. Each of the units is regarded as an individual achievement in its own right.

Assessment procedure:
Knowledge and software skills are assessed by practical tasks. Externally set assessments are taken for each unit.

There are no formal entry qualifications although students must have be comfortable using a computer and have some keyboard skills, or you must have recently completed an Entry Level IT course.

Free study and financial support:
Many part-time students at South Tyneside College do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, depending on the course and the number of hours a week you study, you may be eligible for an Adult Learners†Grant. Please ask us about free study and financial support when you apply.
