Business Studies
This Course is for those not achieving 5 A*-C grades at GCSE level.

The course is aimed at students who prefer course work and enjoy learning in a practical 'hands on' way. The taught elements of business theory and concepts are developed through practical application, such as simulated business activity, case studies based on local business organisations and investigation of the local business community. Visits to organisations and visiting speakers from the local business community support students in their studies.

Students are encouraged to become independent learners, with the focus of the learning on applying knowledge and skill to the workplace, to industry standards. Students will need to develop effective time management skills to meet deadlines set for course work submission. Additionally, students will be required to undertake some tasks as a member of a team, as well as completing tasks on an individual basis.

Lessons are timetabled for 10 hours per week, all are within a computer room. Additionally, support is given on a 1-2-1 basis to help students to build their portfolio of work.

Skills Development

In addition to developing communication, number and IT skills, which are integral to the units studied, students will develop a range of personal skills, including organisation of course work, research and analysis, effective time management and the ability prioritise tasks set, working as a team member.

What Will I Learn on this Course?

There are 4 mandatory units (ie subscribed by OCR), these are:
