This OCR accredited National Certificate focuses on practical learning and the development of vocational skills within the fast-growing Media sector.
It offers students the opportunity to:

In order to be successful on the course you will require a lively and enquiring mind, an interest in the Media, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively

What Will I learn on this Course?

You will :
  • Be introduced to the Media and its related subjects
  • Develop practical knowledge and skills in Media areas
  • Follow a programme of study that enables progression to both higher education and employment within the Media industry

Course Content and Method of Assessment

For this qualification, candidates will study six units, four of which are mandatory and two optional.
There are no externally examined units on this course of study. All units are assessed through a portfolio.

Mandatory units:
1) Introduction to Media
2) Pre-production
3) Introduction to production
4) Marketing and presenting a Media product

After the Course

Students with OCR National Certificate in Media have access to a wide range of further education opportunities. You will have learnt and used a wide variety of transferable skills throughout the course which would be appropriate to further study or employment. These include researching and presenting information in both written and oral form; analysing and interpreting ideas/debates around the media; producing practical work; working in groups and meeting deadlines. Many of these skills are recognised by Colleges and employers as being of great value.

Many students remain at College to study A levels or the OCR National Diploma.

Subject Combinations

OCR National Certificate in Media can form the core of a one year intermediate course of study - comprising 10 periods per week. It combines well with virtually all other programme combinations.
