This six-day course for physiotherapists will improve your understanding of the prevention and management of sport and performance specific injuries.
It also covers a number of medical conditions for children and adolescent athletes participating at different levels of sport and performance activities across a range of abilities and disabilities.
This course is run by UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH).

About this course

By the end of this course you should be able to:
understand and have advanced knowledge of the epidemiology, aetiology and pathophysiology of selected athletic injuries and medical conditions within the able and disabled paediatric and adolescent sports/performance populations
understand and evaluate the risk assessment procedures, clinical tests, investigations and interventions used in the assessment, diagnosis and management of sport/performance related injuries and selected medical conditions within an evidence based, clinical reasoning framework
evaluate the influence of nutritional and psychosocial factors and justify appropriate management approaches that could be to promote performance and during rehabilitation
demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills in the assessment and management of the selected sports/performance injuries medical conditions, in the context of the evolving evidence base and contemporary professional and ethical and medico legal framework
justify strategies and techniques for the prevention, assessment and management of selected injuries and medical conditions encountered by paediatric and adolescent athletes participating at different levels of participation and across a range of abilities and disabilities
critically reflect on their scope of practice and their role within the multi-disciplinary team in the triage and management pathways of children and adolescents with selected athletic injuries and medical conditions

You'll need to be a qualified physiotherapist, with a degree in physiotherapy at least equivalent to a lower second class Bachelor’s degree.
