Course Overview A course for complete beginners and those with a little experience. We will explore the basics of composition, line and colour through a variety of media. Learners need to bring the following to the first class: 2B pencil, cartridge paper (A3 size at least), eraser. Advice will be given about the purchase of materials at the first session. Learners may wish to bring any watercolour paints, watercolour paper and brushes they already have.

Qualification gained: This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

Course Content: structured exercises and projects covering line, tone and composition using pencil, charcoal and pen and ink. Progressing onto colour mixing and the use of colour in watercolour, acrylic and coloured pencil. A variety of techniques and materials will be explored throughout the course.

Work Experience: No work experience is required for this course.

Course Assessment: Progress on this course will be assessed through lecturer feedback, observation, presentation and informal assessment.

Progression: Learners can progress to more advanced mixed media classes.

Homework: Homework is not essential for this course but learners will benefit from practising the skills they acquire each week.

Additional Costs: Learners will be required to provide their own art materials.
