Level: introduction

Course content:
An introductory course to enable you to develop skills and confidence in basic cake decorating techniques for making a range of easy celebration and party cakes. You will learn how to make and use icings, coat cakes, pipe basic shapes, crimp patterns and use cutters and embossers and some modelling skills for classic and novelty designs.

-To make icings and pastes
-To coat cakes and use simple decorative techniques
-Expert advice on choosing and using equipment
-How to use a range of popular cutters
-The global and cultural backgrounds to the subject
- The principles of colour, design and proportion Compiling a personal reference file

Course Structure:
You will agree a course outline for the term. Each week the lesson will include mini lecture, demonstrations and small group and individual work on practical samples and techniques. Practice at home is encouraged for progress

Course resources:
Access to learning Centres which hold a selection of reference magazines and books. The tutor has a variety of books in class for reference.

Assessment:
Tutor observation and feedback. Individual Learning Plans. Student and peer self assessment. Course file appraisal

Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
You will need to purchase some basic equipment and materials each week as needed. You will be entitled to a 10% discount at the local sugarcraft shop
