Calligraphy

Level: Level 1

Course content:
This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as students with some experience wishing to extend their skills., The course focuses on the basic skills for pen and brush work, what tools and materials to use, different fonts including italic and foundational. Students will be encouraged to develop individual projects.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
Use appropriate tools safely
Uuse pen and brushes correctly
Use different fonts including italic and foundational, and learn the basic principles of design using the written word for invitations, poetry, prose, greeting cards, decorative plaques.

More experienced students will learn how to incorporate colour and illustration in their work.

Course Structure:
A workshop basis with some group tuition on topics, practical demonstrations and one to one support from your tutor on your practical work.

Course resources:
A list of tools and equipment which students will need to purchase is available and will be given to students in first week. Please bring a notebook, pen, file for handouts. You may also bring examples of calligraphy which you admire.

Assessment:
Teacher's feedback. Individual learning plans. Student and peer self-assessment. A completed piece of calligraphy work.

Another calligraphy course such as level 2 to develop individual projects further.

When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
Your tutor will advise you what you need to buy and where on week 1. Costs will be dictated by the materials you choose.
