Computing - Introduction

Course content:
This course gives a basic introductory to computing for those who have no or little experience of a PCs.
By the end of this course students will be able to:
Basic PC Skills
- Log on and run a program
- Use the functions of the mouse
- Access drives and data stored on the computer
- Create folders
- Create files
- Cut/copy/paste files
Microsoft Word
- Create a word document
- Add â€-effects' to word documents
- To save and print work.
The Internet
- Open an internet browser
- Use search engines to find information.
- Use Websites to find information.
-• Set up an Email Account.
- Send and receive Emails.
-Working with pictures and creating posters and invitations
- Carry out formatting of text producing posters and invitations.
Spread Sheets
- Enter data in a Spread Sheet program.
- Produce graphs/charts from that data.
On Wednesday evening at Roehampton and Saturday afternoon at Tooting you will also:
- Plug a device into a PC's USB port
- Retrieve pictures from a digital camera
- Resize pictures
- Work with formulas on spreadsheets

Course Structure:
Students will use PC's to practice online. Presentations will be made using interactive whiteboards and printed notes from online material. Class discussions will be held to help students grasp complex concepts.
N.B: Homework plays a substantial part of this course and you will be required to spend an average of 10hrs per week practise, inclusive of lecture time!

All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.

Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
