Students must pass an aptitude test and are required to have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at Grade A* to C, including Maths and Science, as well as having completed the 2330 at level 2.

Electrotechnical Certificate Level 3

Is this course right for me?

The course is aimed at those who have completed City and Guilds 2330 Level 2 or equivalent and intend to enter the Electrical Installation industry. Guidance will be given to ensure that the course is appropriate to applicants needs.

What will I be learning?

The content of the course includes:
Unit 1 Application of Health and Safety and Electrical Principles
Unit 2 Installation (Building and Structures) Inspection, Testing and Commissioning
Unit 3 Installation (Building and Structures) Fault diagnosis and Commissioning

How will I learn?

There is a multichoice online City and Guilds test for unit 1 and a written end examination for unit 2 and 3. There are also written assignments and practical assessments for Unit 2 and Unit 3.

Assessment is carried out continually as you progress through the course. You are free to learn at your own speed and are encouraged to make use of your time away from College. As part of the assessment strategy students are required to sit City and Guilds external examinations.

What else might I want to know?

The course is also suitable for applicants who require retraining. It covers the advanced requirements learners need to use to build on the basics, to eventually qualify as an electrician.

IEE Wiring Regulations
Study equipment such as pens, paper, and simple scientific calculator.

What can I do afterwards?

Future opportunities for students that achieve Level 3 is to progress onto level 3 Certificate for 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, or Level 3 Certificate for Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations. If they gain employment in the electrical industry they can progress onto NVQ level 3 Certificate in Electrotechnology to become an approved electrician.
