Part-time Level II Award/Certificate/Diploma in Childcare & Education (Formerly CCE)(2010/2011)
Study Method:
You will be expected to attend college on one full day per week (at present Wednesday) and two full days in a practical placement.
There are various studying methods on this course including classroom sessions, independent study, practical and creative work and practical work placements throughout the entire year.
Duration :One-year course.
Who the Course is For:
THE CACHE ACD in Childcare is a part-time course for those wanting to pursue a career in childcare.candidates wishing to study part time will need to have some relevant previous childcare experience, this will be discussed at interview with the course tutor who will advise of the suitability for this programme.
Assessment:
You will build a portfolio of work that is internally assessed and you will sit a test for each sesctionof the qualification:
Award - multiple choice test
Certificate - assignments
Diploma - portfolio and assignments
You will also provide a portfolio of reflections from your placement and activities you have carried out with the children.
Course Leads To:
A rewarding career in some areas of childcare including nursery assistant in private nurseries and crches, welfare assistants in schools or private nanny positions.
However, most students progress onto the two-year Diploma course.
Entry Requirements:
Students must be over 21 years of age and have a good level of written and spoken English and have the ability to study to GCSE level.
Students will be required to sit an English test to assess their written ability. A keen interest and concern for children is essential. A reference from a childcare setting is needed.
Content:
The CACHE Certificate is equivalent to an NVQ Level II in Childcare and Education and GCSE at Grade C level study. Therefore, the academic content is of a high standard and can be challenging.
The syllabus includes: theory of play, child development, health and safety, childhood health issues and working with children and parents.
The course has a practical component that must be completed in a childcare setting with children aged from 1 year to 16 years
NB: The title and units delivered on this programme may change for September 2010 in line with the changes to the Qualification Curriculum Framework.
These changes will be discussed with applicants at interview where a more deatailed overview of the programme will be given once this has been received from the awarding body.
